This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It addresses work primarily in residential facilities under direct or regular supervision within clearly defined organisation guidelines and service plans. It is the standard entry qualification for workers in this sector and will introduce individuals to all aspects of a carer's role including personal care, well-being and assistance with daily activities. Individuals involved in this type of work need the physical capacity to deal with personal care and must demonstrate genuine compassion and empathy towards others.

Aged care workers provide care, supervision and support for aged people in residential establishments, clinics, hospitals and private residence. Aged care workers assist with the maintenance of personal care, domestic duties and management of illness. They also provide companionship and emotional support, and promote independence and community participation.
