This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It covers the skills and knowledge required to work as a qualified diesel fitter. The qualification has been developed on the assumption that competency will be developed through a combination of on and off-the-job learning strategies such as those delivered through a formal apprenticeship. Apprentices would generally be involved in the repair, servicing and maintenance of heavy earthmoving and agricultural machinery. The work may also involve the repair, servicing and maintenance of large machine engines, heavy lift vehicles and stationary plant equipment (e.g. lift motors, generating sets).
