This qualification is part of the Automotive Industry Retail, Service and Repair Training Package. It covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a broad range of tasks on a variety of heavy commercial vehicles within the automotive service and repair sector.

Originally established as a tertiary institution in 1974, it became the Northern Territory University in 1989 and the Charles Darwin University in 2003.
