This qualification is part of the Electrotechnology Training Package. It provides competencies to select, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain systems and devices for measurement and recording of physical/chemical phenomena and related process control.

Core: Fabricate, dismantle, assemble of utilities industry components; Solve problems in multiple path a.c. circuits; Use instrumentation drawings, specifications, standards and equipment manuals; Solve problems in pressure measurement circuits and systems; Install process instrumentation and tubing and control cabling; Find and rectify faults in process final control elements; Set up and configure human-machine interface (HMI) and industrial networks; plus more. Elective: Calibrate and test measuring instrumentation equipment; Set up scientific analysis measuring and control instruments; Attend to breakdowns in hazardous areas - gas atmospheres; plus more.

Instrument fitters assemble and install precise instruments that measure, indicate, transmit, record and control.
Instrumentation tradespersons install, modify, maintain and repair instrumentation used in measurement and control systems. These instruments measure and control temperature, pressure and flow in processes used in industries such as petro-chemical, mining, food and manufacturing.
