This qualification is part of the Maritime Training Package. It is suitable for people who work in the maritime industry operating as Chief Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 750 kW and Second Engineer on vessels with propulsion power up to 1500 kW in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Deckhands undertake a wide range of fishery and maritime work on land and at sea, including communications, supply, seamanship, hospitality and stores. They may also use equipment such as nets, lines and traps to catch fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
