This qualification is part of the Textiles, Clothing and Footwear Training Package. It is designed to be both an entry level qualification in fashion design and related skills, as well as a qualification providing the skills for employment as an advanced patternmaker. A pathway can also be packaged to cover employment outcomes in merchandising for those working in fashion-related sales, marketing, retail buying and supply chain management.
Subjects you can Study
Core: Follow defined OHS policies and procedures; Identify fibres and fabrics; Modify patterns to create basic styles; Draw and interpret a basic sketch; Identify fabric performance and handling requirements; Identify design process for fashion designs; Apply design studio process; Interact and network with fashion industry participants; Develop product specifications for fashion design. Plus electives.

Life after Study
Clothing patternmakers produce master patterns from designs. They work closely with designers, interpreting their sketches to develop a style that can be achieved by the company's equipment and staff, and that fits the image of the company's label.
Fashion designers plan and develop new clothing and accessory styles by creating original designs or by adapting fashions to suit local conditions and trends. They fabricate sample garments based on these designs.
