This qualification is part of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals who work in the sport and recreation industry in a management or organisational capacity. These individuals have a high degree of autonomy and manage the effective provision of services or programs in locations such as fitness centres, sporting grounds or complexes, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres.

Recreation officers develop, support and coordinate sport and recreation programmes and services for the benefit of the community.
Sports administrators manage sports clubs, associations and peak bodies, undertaking activities such as promoting their sport, obtaining corporate sponsorship and refining the rules and structure. Sports administrators usually work with a voluntary board or committee to develop strategies and programmes to achieve the aims and policies of the club, association or peak body.
