This qualification is part of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in performing core skills in outdoor recreation environments and assisting with the conduct of a range of outdoor activities. Work may be undertaken as part of a team and would be performed under supervision. Work would be undertaken in field locations such as camps or in indoor recreation centres or facilities, in differing environments such as water-based, dry land and mountainous terrains, using a diverse range of equipment.

15 units: 5 core; 10 elective

Core: Provide first aid; Assist in conducting outdoor recreation sessions; Minimise environmental impact; Work effectively in sport and recreation environments; Follow OHS policies. Electives: Demonstrate abseiling skills on artificial surfaces; Demonstrate bushwalking skills in a controlled environment; Demonstrate navigation skills in a controlled environment; Perform deep water rescues; Demonstrate caving skills; Demonstrate top rope climbing skills on artificial surfaces; Demonstrate basic cycling skills; Catch and handle fish; Monitor horse health and welfare; Demonstrate simple kayaking skills; plus more.
