This qualification is part of the Public Sector Training Package. It prepares students to translate texts where there may be significant equivalence problems between source and target text, the subject of the text has specific terminology, or there is need to undertake extensive research and translate complex language and concepts. The English to LOTE specialisation is applicable to candidates whose strongest language is their LOTE. The LOTE to English specialisation is applicable to candidates whose strongest language is English. The LOTE-English both directions specialisation is applicable to candidates who have equal facility in LOTE and English. The LOTE specialisations include Arabic; Indonesian; Dutch; Finnish; French; German; Greek; Hindi; Hungarian; Italian; japanese; Korean; Malay; Mandarin; Polish; Portuguese; Russian; Serbian; Spanish; Swedish; Swiss German; Thai; Turkish; Croatian; Bosnian and Australian Indigenous languages.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient language proficiency in English and another language.

13 units: 5 core; 8 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Apply codes and standards to professional judgement; Negotiate translating and interpreting assignments; Analyse text types for translation of special purpose texts (LOTE-English); Quality assure translations; Edit texts. Specialist: English to LOTE; LOTE to English; LOTE. Plus general electives.
