This course is designed for students who are interested in the commitment required for a professional career as a performing artist. While it is anticipated that the majority of participants will select elective units from their particular area of genre specialisation (i.e. acting, music, dance), the course structure is designed to enable flexibility of choice. For example, a participant wishing to develop musical theatre skills may combine relevant elective units from dance, music and/or acting.

Entry Requirements:

Diploma of Performing Arts and a grade 11 or equivalent education is desirable but not mandatory. Participants seeking entry must be physically capable of developing performance skills at AQF 6.

Structure:

10 units: 4 core; 6 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Extend cultural dance performance skills to a professional level; Participate in a showcase performance; Refine performance skills; Participate in OHS processes. Elective: Act for camera; Extend musical theatre performance skills to a professional level; Create and perform complex dance pieces; Understand the business of performing arts; plus more.

Further information:

The course is open to all people, however ACPA has been established specifically to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians to gain knowledge and skills for employment in the performing arts industry. Participant selection will be guided by ACPA's stated objectives.

The Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts Pty Ltd is a Registered Training Organisation developing and training Indigenous performing artists in acting, singing, dance and music. The provider delivers accredited training with qualifications in Certificate II, IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in the Performing Arts. ACPA caters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally sensitive and supportive environment.
