Alana Kaye Training

This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of workers who work under broad supervision and guidance and provide services to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues. They can provide counselling, referral and promotion services. These workers require high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health issues related to alcohol and drugs use and misuse.

Structure:

22 units: 16 core; 6 elective

Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing; Establish self-directed recovery relationships; Manage personal stressors in the work environment; Collaborate in professional practice; Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans; Provide community focused health promotion and prevention strategies; Develop quality systems in line with registration standards; Provide advanced interventions to meet the needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues; Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues; Assess the needs of clients with problem gambling issues; Counsel clients affected by domestic and family violence; Provide early intervention, health prevention and promotion programs; Recognise healthy body systems; Work with diverse people; Manage and maintain tenancy agreements and services; Provide support to develop wellness plans and advanced directives; Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural safety; Work effectively in trauma informed care; Develop strategies for alcohol and other drugs relapse prevention and management; Manage own professional development in responding to domestic and family violence; Apply specialist interpersonal and counselling interview skills; Manage head lease ; Work in an alcohol and other drugs context; Facilitate the recovery process with the person, family and carers; Manage budgets and financial plans; Develop and implement service programs; Provide needle and syringe services; Work collaboratively with the care network and other services; Work to empower Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities; Respond to client language, literacy and numeracy needs; Meet statutory and organisation information requirements; Reflect and improve upon counselling skills; Work within a structured counselling framework; Work with carers and/or families in complex situations; Provide systems advocacy services; Research and apply evidence to practice; Develop, implement and review quality framework; Implement trauma informed care ; Inform and support patients and groups about oral health; Provide advanced first aid; Interpret and use information about nutrition and diet; Coordinate complex case requirements; Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues; Support clients in decision-making processes; Recruit, induct and support volunteers; Work with clients who are intoxicated; Assist clients with medication; Manage partnership agreements with service providers; Provide or assist with oral hygiene; Provide recovery oriented mental health services; Provide first aid; Implement participation and engagement strategies; Establish and manage client relationships; Provide loss and grief support; Work effectively in the problem gambling sector; Implement recovery oriented approaches to complexity ; Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues; Assess co-existing needs; Facilitate the counselling relationship; Provide suicide bereavement support; Provide counselling for clients with problem gambling issues; Recognise and respond to oral health issues; Apply and manage use of basic oral health products; Provide alcohol and other drugs withdrawal services; Reflect on and improve own professional practice
