This nationally recognised unit of competencydescribes the skills and knowledge required toconfirm collection requirements, prepare client andequipment and collect specimens via urine, salivaand breath testing following the special proceduresthat apply for drugs of abuse testing.This unit applies to individuals working in collectioncentres, in hospitals, in other health careenvironments and workplaces where drugs ofabuse testing takes place.All Health Training is committed to providing aninclusive learning environment. Locations: Blackburn, Narre Warren & Preston or onsiteClass Size: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, workshops willrun with a maximum of 6 students onlyDuration: 1 day (9am – 4.30pm)Delivery Mode: Classroom & Blended LearningWritten Assessment - completed by the student as self-paced learning. This assessment book isrequired to be submitted to our Head Office 2 weeks prior to your workshop date and assessed as“Satisfactory”.2. Workshop attendance & simulated practical - the workshop includes revision of theory & simulatedpracticals of urine, saliva and breath testing.


  • This unit covers the following:▪ Detection of drugs in urine and saliva▪ Detection of alcohol via breath test▪ Legal and ethical obligations▪ Collector requirements including documentation▪ AS/NZS Standards 4308:2008 & 4760:2019▪ Common non-compliances▪ Students will be asked to participate in a urine, saliva and breath test as part of the simulated practical session

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must have completed the Cert III orIV in Pathology Collection or be working in thepathology collection industry. Proof will berequested which will either be a copy of yourqualification or a payslip
