ATEC - Adelaide Training and Employment Centre

This qualification is part of the Metal and Engineering Training Package. It is for people aiming at employment in the metal and engineering industry in occupations at engineering technician level carrying out tasks as engineering design and quality control/assurance monitoring. Students will gain compulsory competencies in organising and analysing information, interacting with computing technology and selecting engineering materials. They will also gain a range of elective competencies current or intended employment, such as CAD, drafting, quality control/assurance, basic fluid power, basic mechanical design, production scheduling, cost estimating and non-destructive testing.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education


20 units: 5 core; 15 elective

Core: Organise and communicate information; Interact with computing technology; Select common engineering materials; Apply mathematical techniques in a manufacturing, engineering or related environment; Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices. Electives: Perform computations; Work safely with ionising radiation; Perform basic statistical quality control; Use hand tools; Perform basic penetrant testing; Perform basic magnetic particle testing; Perform basic eddy current testing; Perform ultrasonic thickness testing; Perform basic radiographic testing; plus more.
