This qualification provides the skills and knowledge to work in the electricity supply industry (ESI) as an Overhead Distribution Linesperson. This qualification covers work on distribution overhead powerlines, including installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and associated hardware. It also includes installation and maintenance of electrical equipment, conductors and cables used in the powerline industry and the use of support plant and equipment to undertake these tasks and environmental requirements.The skills and knowledge described within the units in this qualification may require a licence or permit to practice in the workplace.Additional and/or other conditions may also apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing the qualification.

Test and verify distribution overhead installations; Install and maintain low voltage underground services; Licence to drive a heavy rigid vehicle; Perform low voltage field switching operation to a given schedule; Solve problems in low voltage a.c. circuits; Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (over 100 Tonnes); Perform power system substation switching operation to a given schedule; Lay wiring/cabling and terminate accessories for extra-low voltage (ELV) circuits; Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 20 tonnes); Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (up to 60 tonnes); Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding basic level; Solve problems in d.c. circuits; Use drawings, diagrams, schedules, standards, codes and specifications; Install and maintain power system public lighting; Control vegetation whilst performing linework; Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace; Inspect overhead poles-structures and electrical apparatus; Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more); Terminate cables, cords and accessories for low voltage circuits; Fabricate, assemble and dismantle utilities industry components; Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above); Licence to erect, alter and dismantle scaffolding intermediate level; Maintain network infrastructure electrical equipment; Conduct visual checking and treatment of power system poles and structures; Licence to operate a materials hoist; Install and maintain poles, structures and overhead conductors and cables; Licence to perform dogging; Install and maintain poles, structures and associated hardware; Apply sustainable energy and environmental procedures; Install network infrastructure electrical equipment; Licence to drive a medium rigid vehicle; Licence to perform rigging intermediate level; Operate plant and equipment near live electrical conductors and apparatus; Licence to operate a bridge and gantry crane; Licence to perform rigging basic level; Perform HV field switching operation to a given schedule; Licence to operate a forklift truck; Operate and maintain chainsaws; Licence to operate a personnel and materials hoist; Install mobile generation set for synchronised LV Genset; Solve problems in electromagnetic devices and related circuits; Install and maintain low voltage overhead services; Fix and secure electrotechnology equipment; Working safely near live electrical apparatus; Install and replace power system energy meters and associated equipment; Maintain overhead energised low voltage conductors and cables
