The Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Exercise Science is a 320 credit point double degree, taken in 4 years full-time (or equivalent part-time) designed for students wishing to pursue a career in education with a specialisation in Physical Education, Personal Development or Health Education in a secondary setting in government, non-government or independent secondary schools. In ACT, Qld and Victoria a Bachelor of Exercise Science sequence and units are available and students have a choice of their major and minor sequences. Students are advised to select these sequences from main school teaching areas. There is also a major Education sequence. The Bachelor of Teaching requirements foster the acquisition and development of the basic professional knowledge, skills and attitudes required of an effective classroom teacher. The Bachelor of Exercise Science core content provides an extensive knowledge base of how the human body works, from a psychological, anatomical, physiological, motor control and biomechanical perspective, with a specific focus on the role of exercise in health, well-being and performance.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent. ACT: Major in English (T), minimum B grade; and Major in Mathematics (T), minimum C grade, additional requirement for mathematics discipline studies: Major-Minor in Specialist Mathematics (T), minimum C grade. Qld: Sound achievements in current QCAA Authority Subject of Senior English and Mathematics QCAA Mathematics A and/or B and/or C or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction. Vic: Minimum of Units 1 and 2 - two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any); Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English; Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a major/minor require Units 3 and 4 - mathematical methods; Students wishing to study Music must have AMEB Grade VI or Year 12 Practical Music.

Study Pathways:

Graduates with Bachelor degrees may be eligible for entry into honours courses or to a range of postgraduate coursework programs, e.g. Graduate Certificates and Graduate Diplomas and, through these qualifications and/or with relevant work experience, to Master's degree programs.

All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.

Recognition:

This program has been listed on the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) accredited programs list and meets the teacher education component of the qualification requirement for registration (accreditation) as a secondary school teacher in all states and territories.
