This dual degree program provides a legal education informed by Christian values and an education in theology that is orientated to the professional values and practice of law. The Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Laws focuses on: ethical behaviour; social justice; the common good; the law's interaction with theology.

Entry Requirements:

Year 12 or equivalent. NSW Prerequisites: English (Standard) (Band 3) or English as an Additional Language (EAL) (Band 4); VIC Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 30 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or 25 in any other English.


400 credit points. Students will complete up to 160 hours pro bono experience (after their first year) which will count as credit for a compulsory community engagement unit (10cp).

This double degree is designed to produce well-rounded graduates ready for legal practice and a wide range of professional careers in an increasingly global environment. Graduates can pursue a range of legal careers including: private legal practice as a solicitor or barrister; legal officer in the public sector (for example in federal or state government departments and publicly-funded organisations such as universities or public broadcasters); in-house counsel to a wide range of organisations from corporations to trade unions; public interest legal work in community legal centres; and legal research. Completing this double degree is also excellent preparation for a career in areas as diverse as teaching, work in church agencies and ministries, chaplaincy, social inclusion, pastoral work, and social work, research, journalism and media, administration and public relations.


This course has been specifically developed to meet the requirements for admission to practice law. The course has been approved for admission to practice law in Victoria and New South Wales, and is recognised for admission as a legal practitioner in other States and Territories in Australia.

Australian Catholic University (ACU) commenced operation on 1 January 1991. The University has seven campuses in Adelaide, Ballarat, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney (2 campuses) and teaches courses throughout Australia and overseas. The University was formed by the amalgamation of four Catholic institutions of higher education in eastern Australia, and is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (Australian Catholic University Ltd).
