This qualification is part of the Health Training Package. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to assist a dentist, dental hygienist, dental prosthetist, dental therapist or oral health therapist during all oral health care procedures, to help maintain high standards of infection control and to assist with practice administration to support quality and professionalism in the dental sector.

11 units: 9 core; 2 elective

Core: Communicate and work in health or community services; Work with diverse people; Provide first aid; Prepare for and assist with oral health care procedures; Assist with dental radiography; Assist with administration in dental practice; plus more. Electives: Implement an individualised oral hygiene program; Recognise and respond to oral health issues; Provide or assist with oral hygiene; plus more.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 250 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.
