This qualification is part of the Creative Arts and Culture Training Package. It reflects the role of individuals who use well-developed skills and a broad knowledge base in music performance, sound production or music business contexts. They apply solutions to a defined range of unpredictable problems, and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have limited responsibility for the output of others.

The Guild is a national organisation conducting courses and examinations in music at all levels, including steps through the grades into Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Bachelor Degree. The Guild is classified as a private Registered Training Organisation for VET (TAFE level) courses and as a higher education provider. All courses are on the national register for delivery in all states. FEE-HELP is available for eligible students applying to the Degree (Australian citizens).
