Certificate III in Construction Crane Operations

This qualification is part of the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. It provides a trade outcome in mobile crane operations in the residential and commercial construction industries. Due to the high risk nature of the job role, the qualification provides a strong focus on safety requirements. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills, as well as specialist skills for crane operators in two specialist streams: Stream 1 20 tonne (C2) licence and Stream 2 60 tonne (C6) licence.

Entry Requirements:

No minimum education. WorkCover regulations require that learners must have completed an approved program in OHS General Construction Induction before carrying out construction work.


23 units: 20 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Deliver and monitor a service to customers; Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry; Handle construction materials; Operate elevated work platforms; Work safely around power sources, services and assets; Perform crane scheduling; Licence to perform dogging; Apply accident-emergency procedures; Follow mobile crane safety procedures; plus more and electives including specialist stream.

Study Pathways:

Certificate II in Construction; Certificate III in Carpentry; Certificate III in Dogging; Certificate III in Rigging.

Further information:

Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement. It is a prerequisite of the core unit TLILIC2016A Licence to drive heavy rigid vehicle that candidates hold a current Class C drivers licence (for at least 2 years).
