Audio at AIM is designed for individuals wanting to follow a career as a sound engineer (studio or live performance), music producer, or audio specialist. Students have access to state-of-the-art recording studios and undertake a wide variety of production projects to develop professional skills in critical listening, recording, mixing and live sound.

Australian: $57,960
International: $72,480

Entry Requirements:

NSW HSC or equivalent Interview required for all non-performance based majors; International Students require an IELTS of 6.0 minimum


Performance studies; Ensemble; Foundation and critical studies; Associated studies; Core studies. Audio: focuses on the theoretical aspects of sound engineering including; acoustics, perception of hearing, digital audio, sampling, electronics and system design. Recording: focuses on the practical techniques of recording and mixing sound. Students undertake practical classes in AIM's numerous recording studios, completing their own recording projects in each of these units. Projects increase in complexity as students progress through the course. Digital: focuses on the software used in the field of sound and music production. All units are undertaken in the Digital Media lab with access to digital audio workstations.

In order to achieve this, AIM is constantly upgrading its equipment and facilities, most recently on the Sydney campus where, as part of its 50-year celebrations, AIM has completely revamped the campus into a cutting-edge and industry-leading music facility.

Our sound-proofed classrooms and theatres are all stocked to the brim with various instruments and technologies as well as top-of-the-line audio systems for critical listening and recording. 

At AIM, a collaboration between students is highly encouraged which is why students are able to hire instruments and equipment as well as book practice rooms and recording studios at no expense, including alumni.
