Type of institution: University/Higher Education Institution
The Master of Mathematical Sciences (Advanced) is intended to enable students to upgrade their expertise in the mathematical sciences either as a route to further study of mathematical sciences or to upgrade their quantitative skills. This could include areas such as the biological sciences and computational science that are rapidly becoming more reliant on advanced techniques from the mathematical sciences. ANU is ranked number one in Australia for maths teaching and research and we offer you small class sizes and access to some of the best mathematicians in Australia. Students and researchers have access to up-to-date computing facilities including the National Computational Infrastructure supercomputer.
This program requires the completion of 96 units, which must consist of 72 units from the coursework component and 24 units from the research component. Students must achieve a minimum 70% weighted average mark in the coursework component and have the approval of an identified research supervisor to continue the research component.
Standard entry requirements
- A Bachelor degree or international equivalent with a GPA 5.5/7.0 and at least 8 courses in cognate disciplines (Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematical Economics, Mathematical Finance, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science, Bioinformatics)
- English language requirements
Applicants with a Bachelor Degree or Graduate Certificate in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 24 units (one semester) of credit. Applicants with a Graduate Diploma or Honours in a cognate discipline may be eligible for up to 48 units (one year) of credit.
