The Master of Professional Accounting has been designed for students whose first degree is in a non-accounting field and provides them with a comprehensive program of study in accounting theory and practice that is recognised by both CPA Australia and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, enabling them to pursue a pathway to qualification as a professional accountant. Students will be introduced to related disciplines, including business law, taxation, information systems, economics and quantitative methods. The program is offered via flexible delivery, allowing students to study at the Mt Helen Campus, Gippsland Campus (Churchill), or via online delivery. This program also offers two exit points, the Graduate Certificate of Professional Accounting (8 courses) and the Graduate Diploma of Professional Accounting (12 courses).

Entry Requirements:

Undergraduate degree in a non-accounting discipline. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who do not have a bachelor's degree may be admitted on the basis of relevant work experience, and demonstrated capacity to undertake the program as determined by Federation Business School.

Structure:

To graduate with this program students will need to complete the following courses, totalling 180 credit points. Knowledge suite (students must complete all courses) BULAW 5914 Commercial law, BUECO 5903 Business economics, BUACC 5930 Accounting concepts and practices, BUACC 5937 Information system design and development for accountants, BULAW 5915 Corporate law, BUACC 5931 Research and statistical methods for business, BUACC 5932 Corporate accounting, BUACC 5933 Cost and management accounting, BULAW 5916 Taxation law and practice, BUACC 5934 Financial accounting Capstone suite (you must complete all courses), BUACC 5935 Auditing and assurance services, BUACC 5936 Financial management Elective suite. Unless students have been granted RPL for four courses, they must complete four approved business electives to bring the total course-count to sixteen. If this is the case, one such elective must be BUGEN5930 Business, society and the planet.

In exceptional circumstances applicants who do not have a bachelors degree may be admitted on the basis of relevant work experience, non-degree qualifications (including professional qualifications), and demonstrated capacity to undertake the program, as assessed by the Programs Coordinator. Applicants without a bachelors degree would normally be admitted initially to the Graduate Certificate of Commerce or Graduate Certificate in Business.
