This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of entry level community services workers who support individuals through the provision of person-centred services. Work includes day-to-day support of individuals in community settings or support of the implementation of specific community-based programs. At this level, work takes place under the direction of others and supervision may be direct or indirect. Work may take place in a range of community services organisations.

12 units: 5 core; 7 elective

Electives: Facilitate the interests and rights of clients; Work in an alcohol and drugs context; Work with clients who are intoxicated; Provide needle and syringe services; Facilitate the empowerment of older people; plus more.

Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education offers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the chance to study a wide range of courses designed to help them gain the skills and qualifications to find work and to help with the development of their communities.

The Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE) is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). Both organisations share a commitment to Indigenous student outcomes and currently occupy unique positions in the Australian tertiary education sector, having a critical focus on regional, remote and Indigenous education in some of the most challenging environments in the country. ACIKE is the only higher education delivery portal for BIITE. Both organisations provide staff for four schools within the ACIKE structure.
