This qualification is part of the Construction, Plumbing and Services Training Package. It provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. The units of competency cover essential OHS requirements, the industrial and work organisation structure, communication skills, work planning, and basic use of tools and materials. The qualification is built around a basic construction project unit that integrates the skills and embeds the facets of employability skills in context.

11 units: 8 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry; Plan and organise work; Conduct workplace communication; Read and interpret plans and specifications; Use construction tools and equipment; Work safely in the construction industry; Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry; Undertake a basic construction project. Electives: Undertake basic estimation and costing; Carry out measurements and calculations; Handle construction materials; Apply basic levelling procedures; Undertake a basic computer design project.

Study Pathways:

Skills achieved will assist in successfully undertaking a Certificate II pre-vocational program or job outcome qualification, or will facilitate entry into an Australian Apprenticeship.

Courses at Booth College are open to the public. It is owned by the Salvation Army and provides a range of courses from VET to Higher Education in a variety of areas including ministry, theology, leadership and management, counselling, pastoral care. Courses are available online or face to face at a number of sites and full or part time. The School for Christian Studies offers 4 undergraduate courses from Diploma to Bachelor level and 5 postgraduate courses from Graduate Certificate to Masters. Australian Government FEE-HELP is available for eligible higher education students.
