This qualification is part of the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It reflects the role of personal trainers who have specialised skills to train individual clients, or groups of clients, on a one-on-one or group basis, to improve health-related components of fitness in relatively low risk situations. They will learn to plan, conduct and evaluate exercise training; provide leadership and guidance to clients and other staff; and deal with unpredictable situations.

Entry Requirements:

Entry to this qualification is open to those who hold a current first aid qualification and current CPR certificate; completion of required prerequisite units: Provide health screening and fitness orientation; Recognise and apply exercise considerations for specific populations; Instruct fitness programs; Incorporate anatomy and physiology principles into fitness programming; Provide healthy eating information; Conduct fitness appraisals; Instruct exercise to older clients; Provide quality service.

Structure:

20 units: 12 core; 8 elective

Core: Instruct exercise to young people aged 13 to 17 years; Collaborate with medical and allied health professionals in a fitness context; Provide motivation to positively influence exercise behaviour; Promote functional movement capacity; Instruct exercise programs for body composition goals; Recognise the dangers of providing nutrition advice to clients; plus more. Electives: Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business; Monitor and manage small business operations; Support the recruitment, selection and induction of staff; Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices; Develop strength and conditioning programs; plus more.
