This qualification is part of the Aviation Training Package. It is a specialist qualification for the aviation industry. It applies to flight crew personnel operating in support of commercial or Defence aviation flight operations. Duties of such personnel include applying technical and non-technical aviation skills and knowledge to a wide range of air transport operations, including passenger, charter and cargo operations while operating aeroplanes or helicopters under the instrument flight rules (IFR). Individuals working at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgement and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts within broad but established parameters.

Meet standard requirements with CASA or Defence Aviation for certification and/or flight hours

Structure:

13 units: 12 core; 1 specialist elective

Core: Implement threat and error management strategies; Manage safe flight operations; Plan a flight under instrument flight rules; Navigate aircraft under instrument flight rules; Operate and manage aircraft systems; Conduct a 2D instrument approach; Perform instrument arrival and standard arrival route procedures; plus more and electives.

This qualification forms some of the requirements for an Instrument Rating certification by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as directed by Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 61 Flight crew licensing. Use for Defence Aviation is to be in accordance with relevant Defence Orders, Instructions, Publications and Regulations. People seeking certification should check these requirements with CASA.
