This qualification provides the skills and knowledge required to give design and decoration advice for building interiors, including the development of complete decorative schemes for the effective use of residential and commercial or institutional interior spaces, working with a client brief and within project parameters. There is an emphasis on furnishings, finishes and aesthetics, environmental sustainability, colour and pattern in interior spaces and historic furnishing styles. It may also include specialist design areas such as facilities for people with disabilities and the aged.

10 core units plus 19 electives.

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Explore and apply the creative design process to 2D forms; Explore and apply the creative design process to 3D forms; Establish, negotiate and refine a design brief; Produce drawings to communicate ideas; Produce technical drawings; Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices; Research, analyse and apply colour for interior spaces; Decorate residential interiors; Determine WHS implications of interior effects; Evaluate site for interior design brief. Electives: Design residential interiors; Develop a decoration proposal for a complex site; Originate and develop concepts; Create digital 3D models; Design interior lighting; plus more.

Students wishing to access WorkReady funding or VET Student Loans will be required to demonstrate satisfactory reading, writing and numeracy skills as part of course counselling before enrolling.
