This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients' homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

14 units: 11 core; 3 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Develop and provide person-centred service responses; Provide individualised support; Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs; Follow established person-centred behaviour supports; Manage legal and ethical compliance; plus more. Electives: Facilitate the interests and rights of clients; Provide advocacy and representation services; Coordinate services for older people; Provide support to people living with dementia; Address the needs of people with chronic disease; Respond to suspected abuse; Work with forced migrants; plus more.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work.

Established in 1985, breakthru is a Registered Training Organisation that provides a training and Disability employment service which assists people with barriers to employment. This is achieved by supporting people to establish careers that are of mutual benefit to the employee, employer, and the community. Classes are usually limited to 15 students.
