This qualification is part of the Information and Communications Technology Training Package. It is designed as a pathway for entry into work on the National Broadband Network (NBN). It provides individuals with the skills and knowledge in a range of NBN industry occupations, specifically for the national rollout of high speed broadband network infrastructure. This may be undertaken as part of a traineeship.

Structure:

12 units: 5 core; 7 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Work safely in the construction industry; Use electrical skills in telecommunications work; Use hand and power tools; Follow WHS and environmental policy and procedures; Work effectively in telecommunications technology. Electives: Install lead-in module and cable for fibre to the premises; Haul underground cable; Install an above ground equipment enclosure; Splice and terminate optical fibre cable for carriers and service providers; plus more.

Further information:

Students seeking a qualification targeted to a specific telecommunications linesworker job outcome (such as Fibre or Copper or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) should select the required number of electives from the relevant group. A generic qualification may be obtained by selecting units of competency from across all elective groups.
