This qualification is part of the Public Sector Training Package. It allows for the attainment of competencies required for independent and self-directed work in the public sector. There may be supervisory responsibilities. The generalist qualification is suited to those working in an environment where there are a range of responsibilities which are diverse in nature rather than within a narrow specialisation and/or who work in small or regionally based organisations. Chosen elective units should reflect the responsibilities of the individual. Specialisation is available in: injury management; workplace inspection, and policy development.

Year 12 or equivalent; relevant employment


11 units: 4 core; 7 elective

Core: Promote the values and ethos of public service; Promote diversity; Promote compliance with legislation in the public sector; Use complex workplace communication strategies. Electives: Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements; Determine liability and negotiate settlements; Facilitate improvement in workplace legislative performance; Advise on organisation policy; Scope statistical data collection; plus more.

Students seeking a qualification targeted to a specialisation (such as injury management or workplace inspection) should select the required number of electives from the relevant group. A generic qualification may be obtained by selecting units of competency from across all elective groups.
