Certificate III in Permaculture

Byron Community College

This qualification is part of the Agriculture, Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management Training Package. It relates to those individuals who work either independently or in teams to establish and maintain permaculture systems for private clients, organisations or community entities. They perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a wide variety of contexts, which may involve application of some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, elements in a design or contingency measures. It is suited to learners who wish to work at the skilled tradesman level within permaculture projects and enterprises, and may involve supervision of others and working with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Structure:

15 units: 5 core; 10 elective

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Research and communicate information on permaculture principles and practices; Develop recommendations for integrated plant and animal systems; Maintain integrated plant and animal systems; Select plant and animal species for permaculture systems; Conduct site inspections. Electives: Establish an urban permaculture system; Use weedy plants in a permaculture system; Carry out animal care, maintenance and treatment programs in permaculture systems; Implement crop maintenance and harvesting programs for permaculture systems; Plan organic garden and orchard systems; Operate within a sustainable community and bioregional development program; Implement property improvement, construction and repair; plus more.

Established in 1993, Byron Community College (formerly ACE Mullumbimby) is a community-managed Registered Training Organisation. The College provides adult and community education programs for the Byron Shire including the towns of Byron Bay, Mullumbimby, Brunswick Heads and Bangalow. The provider also offers training and staff development for business and community organisations.
