The Cairnmillar Institute, School of Psychology Counselling and Psychotherapy was first accredited as a private Higher Education Provider with university equivalence in 2005. The psychology programs have been accredited by The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). The Counselling and Psychotherapy programs have been accredited by The Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA). Cairnmillar currently has over 45 staff, 170 post graduate students studying the health sciences, operates at 4 sites, has 3 student psychology clinics, and a footprint that covers regional and country Victoria. They have partnerships with over 40 allied health services, schools, and community-based organisations.

Entry requirements for Cairnmillar Institute, The
Each program has specific minimum application and entry requirements as detailed on our website. We are a small prestige institution and entrance is competitive. The entry criteria are the minimum to be considered and we place significant consideration on entrance statements, interviews and references in addition to the general academic criteria.
We are unable to consider applications which do not meet our minimum criteria, including meeting the minimum IELTS score which is 7 for more programs.
Transfering your previous study credits
Students may apply for recognition of prior learning and exemptions from some units of study, where an equivalence of earlier learning and achievement can be established. Current competencies will be assessed through the following: written application, a presentation of the application to the appropriate selection committee, review and clarification of all supporting documentation and referee feedback.
All claims for recognition of current competence will be matched to the relevant subject outlines or project requirements. Credit transfer for an APAC accredited course is only applicable from units taught in another APAC accredited course at an equivalent AQF level.
