The Master of Professional Psychology prepares selected psychology graduates who have successfully completed an APAC accredited fourth year course in psychology to gain the knowledge and skills to meet the core capabilities and attributes required to practice as a psychologist. The eight competencies include the knowledge and skills to research, analyse, articulate and synthesise psychology as a systematic body of knowledge. Students learn a range of evidence based psychotherapies and interventions, gain professional experience through 300 hours of supervised practice with a range of client groups and life-span issues. This includes gaining the experience and skills to administer and interpret a comprehensive range of psychological tests and assessments. The aim of the course is to provide a general education in the professional practice of psychology, such that the graduate is eligible to gain registration as a provisional psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), via the 5+1 pathway. Students may also be registered psychologists seeking to upgrade their qualifications. This fifth year has been designed specifically to meet APAC and PsyBA guidelines for such courses. On completion, students are required to sit the National Psychology Examination.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must have successfully completed an (APAC) accredited fourth year course in psychology, and be eligible to hold provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Bard of Australia. Upon commencing the course, students must be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the PsyBA, provide a copy of a current Police Check and a Working with Children Check. International students must have an IELTS score of 7.00 with a minimum in each band of 7.


6 units of course work, 1 research project unit and 1 placement unit.

Study Pathways:

Students who successfully complete the Master of Professional Psychology (5th Year) at a superior level may be invited to articulate into the second year of the Master of Professional Psychology Practice (5+1) to complete their AHPRA approved internship (+1) year as part of that course.


This program is currently under assessment and applications will not be accepted until the course received accreditation by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
