Master of Professional Psychology Practice

Cairnmillar Institute, The

The Master of Professional Psychology Practice prepares students for generalist registration as a psychologist. This program trains selected psychology graduates to meet the requirements for general registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioners Agency (AHPRA). It provides the opportunity to develop psychotherapeutic skills, professional knowledge, and gain experience in psychological practice. The course is not an (APAC) accredited postgraduate course of study. On successful completion of the second year of the course graduates will have completed supervised field placements, undertaken individual and group supervision, and acquired the professional skills to meet the requirements for the 5+1 Internship pathway for generalist registration as a psychologist.

Entry Requirements:

To be accepted into the program graduates must have successfully completed an (APAC) accredited fourth year course in psychology, with at least a credit average, and be eligible to hold provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Structure:

This is a 2 year program of study. The first year consists of an embedded Master of Professional Psychology which has 7 taught units and 1 supervised placement. The second year consists of advanced placement units to provide a PsyBA internship program and supporting taught units including preparation for the National Psychology Exam.

Students who successfully complete the Master of Professional Psychology (MPP) at Cairnmillar may be invited to articulate directly into the second year of the MPPP program to complete their internship (+1).
