The Diploma of Liberal Arts - Foundations of the Western Tradition is a Higher Education Award that provides foundational understandings of Western society and culture upon which more specialised studies and vocations can be built. The units of study of the Diploma provide students with the opportunity to develop an appreciation of selected foundational and theoretical concepts and ideas in history, literature, philosophy and theology which have contributed to the genesis and development of the Western Tradition. Students who have enrolled into the Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts, but who do not wish to continue with their course may choose to exit with the Diploma of Liberal Arts - Foundations of the Western Tradition if they have completed the first year of their studies in the Bachelor course.

Structure

  • Students are required to successfully complete all Level 100 core units of the Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts in order to meet the minimum requirements for the Diploma. This equates to 48 credit points/8 units in total across History, Literature, Philosophy and Theology. 48 credit points
  • 8 core units from the 4 disciplines (History, Literature, Philosophy and Theology)
  • electives available in Greek, Latin, Mathematics, and Study Skills.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants are required to submit educational documentation and a 1000-word written statement as part of they application form. They must also undertake a 15-minute interview with one of our academics. Campion College has a number of admission pathways for its Liberal Arts Degree. The pathway relevant to you will be determined by your academic background. Group A: Higher Education Study - One semester of a higher education course of successful completion of a bridging course. Group B: Vocational Education Training - Once complete semester of a Certificate 4. Group C: Work and Life Experience - STAT or SAT score equivalent to 70 ATAR or 2 years of Western Civilization Foundation Great Books Program Group D: Recent Secondary Education - 70 ATAR, OP 14 or IB equivalent. Education Access Scheme and Provisional Entry also available at the Dean's discretion.

Study pathways

Campion College provides the opportunity for students to apply to have prior learning considered for credit towards a Campion College course. In cases where a student has prior learning that is related to assessable components of a Campion College course, the College gives such a student the opportunity to apply for this learning to contribute directly to the completion of the Campion course in question. Forms of prior learning include previous study from recognised tertiary organisations, relevant work or life experience or courses undertaken outside a recognised tertiary education organisation.
