This program will provide graduates with comprehensive specialist nursing knowledge to better meet the demands of their workplace, as well as build their capacity to move onto further study and into research. It offers students the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in clinical practice - clinical nursing specialisations include: acute care, cancer, chronic conditions, emergency, intensive care, mental health, orthopaedics, paediatrics, perioperative and renal.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must hold current registration as a registered nurse or registered midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). All applicants must have a minimum 0.6 FTE employment in the clinical specialty for which they are applying and provide details of their professional responsibilities as part of the online application through SATAC.


This course consists of core units and specialty sequences. Both the content and the assessment strategies used in the course ensure that students are able to develop their clinical experience and professional practice. The emphasis of the program is cross-cultural clinical practice: building competence, increasing specialty knowledge, applying culturally appropriate clinical skills, teaching and managing in the clinical setting.

Charles Darwin University is the major tertiary education and vocational education and training institution in the Northern Territory.

Originally established as a tertiary institution in 1974, it became the Northern Territory University in 1989 and Charles Darwin University in 2003.

The main University campus is located at Casuarina in Darwin with campuses at Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston. VET courses are also offered at Jabiru, Nhulunbuy, Tennant Creek and Yulara Centres as well as at various remote community centres.

The University provides multi-sector education with Senior Secondary, VET, Higher Education and Research facilities.

CDU also deliver a number of courses through the Australian Centre for Indigenous Knowledges and Education (ACIKE), which is a joint initiative between Charles Darwin University (CDU) and the Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). The three main sites for delivery will be at the main ACIKE Hub CDU Casuarina campus and at the BIITE campuses at Batchelor and the Alice Springs Desert Peoples' Centre.
