This qualification is part of the Community Services Training Package. It reflects the role of workers in a range of education settings, including public and independent schools and community education settings, who provide assistance and support to teachers and students under broad-based supervision.

Subjects you can Study:

Core: Support behaviour of children and young people; Comply with legislative, policy and industrial requirements in the education environment; Assist implementation of planned educational programs; Contribute to student education in all developmental domains; Contribute to organisation and management of classroom or centre; Support the development of literacy and oral language skills; Support the development of numeracy skills; Work effectively with students and colleagues; Contribute to the health and safety of students. Plus electives.

Where work involves a specific focus on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and/or culturally diverse clients or communities, one or both of the following electives is recommended: Work effectively with culturally diverse clients and co-workers; Work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The following elective is required in some jurisdictions to meet legislative requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse: Identify and respond to children and young people at risk. In some jurisdictions it is a condition of employment that Education Support Workers are competent in basic first aid.
