It reflects the role of workers who assist a dentist, dental hygienist, dental prosthetist, dental therapist or oral health therapist during oral health care procedures; which includes maintaining high standards of infection control, assisting with practice administration and supporting quality and professionalism in the dental sector.

Applicants must possess Australian Core Skills Framework levels of at least 2 across reading, writing, learning, oral communication, and numeracy skills to successfully complete this program. Students who do not possess these skills to the level required will be enrolled in additional subjects to build the required skills.

Chisholm is one of the largest providers of education and training in Victoria. The Institute was named in 1998, in honour of Caroline Chisholm, the early Australian reformer and humanitarian. Chisholm's modern campuses in the southeast of Melbourne are at: Dandenong (two locations), Frankston, Berwick, Cranbourne, Mornington Peninsula and Bass Coast as well as two new facilities in the centre of Melbourne. Currently, Chisholm offers over 280 accredited, nationally recognised courses from certificates to bachelor degrees and graduate certificates - including its own degrees and partnership degrees with La Trobe University. It also runs approximately 140 short courses for work skills (industry compliance and skills development), as well as lifestyle (self-improvement, recreation and hobby). Courses are developed in consultation with industry, and are designed to meet both current and predicted skill shortages.
