The Master of Teaching (Major) is an ideal course for anyone who has completed a three year non-education bachelor degree. The Primary major will allow students to move into a career as a primary school teacher to teach Prep - Year 6, while choosing the Early Childhood major will prepare students to teach from Prep to Year 2 and in early childhood settings such as long day care settings and kindergartens or pre-prep education centres. This course enables graduates to teach across the Australian Curriculum. The design of this course utilises CQUniversity's three-term structure, therefore a two-year volume of learning masters course can be fast-tracked to be completed in one and a half years.

Standard entry requirements

  • A completed 3 year non-education Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Bachelor degree, or overseas equivalent qualification, with a minimum overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 4.0 which has been completed with the last 10 years
  • And successful completion of at least 8 units (1year full-time equivalent study) relevant to either one, or a combination, of the learning areas from the primary school curriculum. English and non-academic entry requirements also apply.

Recognition

Graduates will be eligible to apply for provisional registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.

Study pathways

Students who complete the Master of Teaching (Major) may wish to undertake further postgraduate studies including Graduate Certificate in Education Neuroscience, Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership or research higher degrees in education at CQUniversity.

Further information

Applicants with undergraduate degrees that were obtained 10 or more years ago will need to supply certified evidence of current relevant professional work experience in the area of their speciality e.g. letters from employers. This experience must link to their previous undergraduate study. Students must have successfully completed at least eight units of discipline studies (at least one year of full-time equivalent study) relevant to one or more learning areas of the primary school curriculum. Applicants with degrees completed overseas must provide evidence to support that their qualifications are equivalent to an Australian 3 year Bachelor degree. Applicants who cannot demonstrate they have completed a Bachelor degree will be refused entry to the program. Students will be required to complete 76 supervised placement days.
