The Bachelor of Accounting gives students the opportunity to study a degree recognised by professional accounting bodies throughout Australia and allows students to take advantage of the exciting career opportunities that exist in the modern business environment. As part of this degree, students will complete specialist accounting units, plus a major, or two minors from a choice of business and non-business disciplines. This combination of core units and electives gives students the opportunity to accumulate knowledge wider than accounting. This course is accredited by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and meets the associate membership requirements of the Institute of Public Accountants.

Study Pathways:

Students have the opportunity of completing a major (or one or two minors) from a number of other business and non-business disciplines. Accounting can also be studied as a dual degree with Laws or Business. On completion of the degree students may be interested in postgraduate courses in Management, International Business or completing a Master of Business Administration.

Further information:

Only the first year of the course is available internally at Bundaberg and Mackay campuses. Second and third year units may be required to be undertaken via a combination of workshops, internal classes and distance education. Course only available for Term 3 entry at Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and by online. Courses at Cairns and Townsville may be delivered by a combination of on-campus study, workshops, residential schools and online.

Recognition:

Depending on the units studied graduates may be eligible for membership of Certified Practising Accountant Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Institute of Public Accountants-Restricted Member IPA status. These organisations accredit each campus individually, students should check the current status of accreditation for your desired location. The Bachelor of Accounting (Financial Planning) is accredited by the Financial Planning Education Council (FPEC) and is an approved degree with the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA). Students who graduate with the Financial Planning major will be eligible to apply for FPA membership. Graduates of this course may also be eligible to join the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants at the Member Level and may be eligible to apply for registration with the Tax Agents Board provided the board's requirements are met.
