This course is designed for people seeking specialist journalism skills and knowledge that will equip them to work in the contemporary media industry. Students will be introduced to key journalism concepts and develop valuable communication and research skills. They will produce journalism across a range of media platforms using industry-standard facilities and technology. Students will experience work integrated learning as reporters for the Curtin journalism news website, Western Independent. They will also gain analytical, collaborative and problem-solving skills through the critically informed practice of designing, planning and producing a major piece of assessment in the form of a professional journalism project or a research dissertation.
