Dr Susan Holland (nee Beryl Forte, 1948-2009) advocated life-long learning and based her career on the belief that education is a right for all Australians, regardless of age, gender or cultural background. After working many years in new South Wales, Dr Holland returned to her hometown of Perth and served as Executive Dean, Faculty of Community Services, Education and Social Sciences, as well as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Cross sectoral Alliances & Access) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) from 1999-2002. Dr Holland established this scholarship to enable a School of Education doctoral student to make substantial research progress. The scholarship is offered on the basis of academic merit, teaching experience and a commitment to undertake research directed to enhancing the quality of teaching. It is ECUs privilege to offer these transformational scholarships that, like the recipients, have the power to change the future of education in Western Australia.
Eligibility Requirements
be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident; have an academic progression status of GREEN; be enrolled in a doctoral program in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University; be and remain enrolled in a minimum of 50% attendance; not currently be in receipt of another scholarship over $5000 per annum; have achieved confirmation of candidature; have experience as a practicing teacher; have a commitment to undertake research directed to enhancing the quality of teaching and; NOT be a current ECU staff member.
