This program provides professional pre-service teacher education for graduates intending to be secondary school teachers. It is accredited as a teaching qualification for government school teachers in all Australian States, and its Biblical worldview makes it ideal for teaching in Christian schools. Delivered online, it offers teacher education students the flexibility to undertake coursework at times they find convenient, and with less travel. Students complete 60 days of supervised professional experience in schools near their homes, with Excelsia College field coordinators supporting both students and supervising teachers. Teaching placements in rural and remote communities are encouraged and supported. Graduates are eligible for employment with the education employment authorities in all States, as well as with independent schools.

Structure

  • This program has one short on-campus intensive, with all coursework units delivered online. Students complete 60 days of supervised practice teaching experience in local schools. Standard entry requirements

  • Bachelor degree with a major study in a designated area related to the first school subject the applicant wishes to teach, i.e. a minimum of 6 sequential semester-long units of discipline knowledge in the designated area (equivalent to a minimum of 3 academic years of study in the designated area), with at least 4 of these units at Level 2 (Year 2) or above
  • IELTS Academic minimum overall result of 7.5 with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening models and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing modules

Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards NSW (BOSTES); Education Employment Authorities of all other Australian States.

Study pathways

Credit is awarded for equivalent previous studies. RPL recognition is available for certified secondary teaching experience. Graduates of this course can access higher degrees.
