Nanotechnology is science at the molecular level and is a growth industry with the potential to change the world. It draws on the strengths of all the basic sciences and this degree will give you a strong background in these sciences.

Structure

In first year all students study core topics in chemical structure and bonding, modern chemistry, fundamentals of nanotechnology, and the nature of science. Student also study mathematics, or mathematics fundamentals in the biomedical nanotechnology stream. In second year students will study core topics in chemical reactivity, organic reactions, spectroscopy and data analysis, and structure and characterisation with option topics in the biomedical nanotechnology stream study of linear algebra and differential equations, and quantum concepts in the quantum nanostructures stream. In third year students look at separation science, applied spectroscopy and electrochemistry, introduction to polymer science, and the frontiers of nanotechnology. Also studied is protein to proteome and DNA to genome in the biomedical nanotechnology stream in addition to applied mathematics methods and quantum physics in the quantum nanostructures stream.

  • Prerequisites: Biomedical nanotechnology: SACE stage two chemistry or equivalent. Quantum nanostructures: SACE stage two chemistry, physics and mathematical methods or equivalent
