The Graduate Certificate in Acute Care Nursing requires 6 months full-time study (or the equivalent part time). The Graduate Certificate is offered by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The course articulates with the 54 unit Master of Nursing (Acute Care) and the sequentially developed topics enable progression through the two awards. The course is also available as an exit award from the Master of Nursing (Acute Care), subject to meeting the requirements in the Program of Study below. The course will not lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Structure
Students complete one core (compulsory) topic and three option topics aimed at providing students the opportunity to critically analyse the concepts and theory around recognition, response and management of the acute, complex and/or critically ill deteriorating patient in a range of acute care settings.Students do not undertake clinical placement as part of the course.
Standard entry requirements
Applicants must normally hold a degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. In addition applicants must be registered nurses in their country of residence. However, the Dean (Education) may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.
