The Graduate Diploma of Midwifery aims to provide registered midwives with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills in midwifery and prepare them for an expanded practice role in an innovative program of study.

Structure

The course comprises 36 units of study. Students complete four core (compulsory) topics and either two or three option topics selected from a range of option topics available. These topics aim at providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate advanced evidence-based knowledge and skills in their midwifery practice, critically analyse existing models of midwifery care and develop new models of women-centred care appropriate to the contexts of practice and apply the advanced knowledge and skills required for an extended midwifery role.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must normally (1) hold a midwifery degree or the Graduate Certificate in Midwifery or equivalent qualification, and (2) be a registered midwife, and (3) hold a current midwifery practising certificate.

Study pathways

Where the Flinders Graduate Certificate in Midwifery has already been completed, credit of up to 18 units will normally be granted.
