This degree is a vocationally oriented and designed to provide a pathway into the areas of business, accounting and finance; it provides a blend of practice and theory and places emphasis on combining specific accounting skills with a broader understanding of economics and the fundamentals of business practice.

Structure

Students complete fourteen core (compulsory) topics and complete two option topics chosen from a range of available option topics. These topics aim to provide students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and attributes for a successful career as an accounting professional and to cultivate research practices for independent, industry and discipline related research in a business context. Students also have the opportunity to complete work placements, industry projects and international study tours as option topics. Please note only Year 1 topics of this course will be available at this location in 2024. If you have been granted credit transfer or wish to apply for credit transfer for this course on the basis of previous study and you are granted credit, this may mean you will not be able to enrol in Year 2 or higher year topics at this location, nor able to enrol on a full-time basis until 2025.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. The Master of Accounting is not available to applicants who hold an Australian accredited degree in accounting.

Recognition

Graduates meet the entry requirements for Certified Practising Accountants of Australia (CPA Australia), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
