The course is designed to provide a strong foundation of business, accounting and finance knowledge, competencies and capabilities to support ethical, global business management and leadership of organisations. Students will be exposed to the application of theory to a range of organisation types including private sector business organisations, not-for-profit organisations and public organisations. Through experiential learning techniques students will develop knowledge and competencies to conduct independent research, carry out industry and discipline related projects, and relate their learning to authentic accounting and financial problems and issues encountered by organisations.

Structure

Students complete sixteen core (compulsory) topics, these topics aim to provide students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and attributes for a successful career as an accounting and finance professional, and to cultivate research practices for independent, industry and discipline related research in a business context. Please note only Year 1 topics of this course will be available at this location in 2024. If you have been granted credit transfer or wish to apply for credit transfer for this course on the basis of previous study and you are granted credit, this may mean you will not be able to enrol in Year 2 or higher year topics at this location, nor able to enrol on a full-time basis until 2025.

Standard entry requirements

Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification. The Master of Accounting and Finance is not available to applicants who hold an Australian accredited degree in accounting.

Recognition

Graduates meet the entry requirements for CPA Australia and the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) with the completion of elective topics in auditing and tax and the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA).

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
