This degree is designed for health professionals experienced in working within the remote and Indigenous context to advance their specialist knowledge of the discipline of Remote Health. This course was developed in collaboration with the Council of Remote Area Nurses of Australia (now CRANA Plus) building on work with the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), the services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied health (SARRAH) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). It is offered on an external basis with residential intensives. All students must attend a compulsory intensive in Alice Springs.

Structure

  • Students complete five core (compulsory) topics, a dissertation and up to four option topics chosen from a range of option topics available. These topics aim to extend students' current knowledge across three major content areas that underpin practice within the discipline of Remote Health locally, nationally and internationally. These content areas are
  • the remote context, public health and application to practice.

Standard entry requirements

  • Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in a health-related discipline, and must have a minimum of three years' full-time equivalent work experience in a health-related field by the commencement date of the course
  • Or hold the Graduate Diploma in Remote Health Practice.Applicants must provide details of their work experience in a health in their SATAC application.

Study pathways

The University may, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions, consider applicants who do not hold a bachelor degree or equivalent but can demonstrate relevant higher education study with relevant work experience, or relevant work experience which may meet the requirements for entry into the course.
