Bachelor of Arts

Griffith University

With a variety of majors to choose from and the freedom to combine any two, Griffith University's Bachelor of Arts gives students the power to create their own unique skill set and prepare for the careers of the future. Whether students are looking for a career in management, leadership, journalism, public relations, policymaking, research and analysis, writing and communications or research, this degree will help them achieve their goals. Students have the option to develop specialist expertise in contemporary fields like security studies, Islam-West relations or politics and international studies, or pursue a professional path by studying journalism, public relations or creative writing. Students can also study more traditional fields including sociology, history or literary studies. The Griffith Bachelor of Arts offers a combination of traditional and emerging study areas relevant to an ever-changing global environment. Students will gain the understanding, insight and skills to find and communicate creative solutions to contemporary challenges. Students will also develop advanced writing and presentation skills, as well as research and project management skills. Plus, as a graduate, they will be equipped with in-depth knowledge about states, societies and cultures, past and present. In the final year, students will have the opportunity to complete an internship or work-based project, which will ensure that they graduate with the practical skills employers want.

Ranked in the world’s top three per cent

With highly awarded teaching staff, expert researchers, a comprehensive suite of degrees spanning all disciplines, and outstanding campus facilities, Griffith ranks among the world’s best universities. In five of the largest and most credible world university rankings, Griffith is ranked in the top 400—placing us in the top three pre cent worldwide.

Australia’s top teachers

Griffith teachers have won more Australian Government awards, citations, fellowships and grants than any other university. Since 2007, Griffith University teachers have been awarded:

  • three Australian University Teacher of the Year awards
  • nine awards for Teaching Excellence
  • four awards for Programs that Enhance Learning
  • 42 Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning
  • seven National Teaching Fellowships.

Flexible study options

Griffith teaches across three 12-week trimesters, rather than two semesters, each year. This model offers students flexibility, industry engagement opportunities and, for some degrees, the opportunity to accelerate their study and graduate sooner. Students can also spread their study load across three trimesters in order to maintain a balance between their studies and work commitments.

Practical experience

Students have the opportunity to gain practical experience working on projects for real clients. Through Griffith’s work-integrated learning programs, students are able to build a portfolio, make critical contacts and key industry links. Examples of practical learning programs include:

  • Liveworm — visual communication design studio
  • LiveSpace — a new studio for socially and environmentally responsible design, focusing on interior environments and product development
  • LiveImage — professional photography services
  • LiveLab — film, animation and games projects
  • The App Factory — smartphone app development by IT and multimedia students
  • Griffith Health Clinics — dentistry, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech pathology and psychology clinics at the Gold Coast where, under supervision, students saw over 50,000 patients last year
  • Financial trading rooms — offering accounting, finance and economics students real-time access to global financial markets.
